Essa xilogravura é o começo dos meus estudos na busca de uma linguagem entre a literatura de cordel com arte Indonésia. Essa busca partiu como uma procura de uma identidade tanto artística como pessoal também. Já que meu pai é nascido na Indonésia e minha mãe nascida no Nordeste brasileiro (em Pernambuco) e dessa mistura saiu eu e meu irmão. Coisa difícil de se achar.
O desenho do homem na carruagem foi tirado de um boneco de sombras esculpido em osso. A série é de 20 gravuras, boa parte dela vou doar a minhas tias e tios, pois, esse ano comemoramos os 50 anos da vinda do meu avô.


This print is the beginning of my studies in search of a language between Cordel’s literature (typical art of Northeast of Brazil) and Indonesia art. This search actually started to find an artistic identity and also a personal identity too. Since my father was born in Indonesia and my mom was born in the northeast of Brazil (Pernambuco state) and from this almost unique mix came my brother and I.
The drawing of the man in the carriage was taken from this Indonesian shadow theater piece made of bone. There are 20 prints of this series and I’m going to donate most of it to my aunts and uncles, cause this year we celebrate the 50th year that my grandfather came to our country.

Pernambuindonésio!

Esse pingente foi presente da minha tia. Nele tem muita história, tanta que nem cabe aqui. Ele veio junto com minha família do meu pai da Indonésia. Recentemente vendemos a casa que meu avô morava, antes de entregarmos a casa tiramos tudo que tinha de valor e pude mergulhar na história tão rica deles e também minha.
O interessante sobre este pingente é que podemos ver que foi feito a mão e que nele tem a identidade Indonésia: India+Ásia. A parte asiática pela face que lembra os Kabukis, as carrancas e a parte indiana pelos detalhes que decoram a peça.
Em 2009 será a o ano 50 desde a vinda da família do meu pai para o Brasil, um dos meus projetos é catalogar e escrever sobre a vinda e vida deles para que assim a história não se perca.

This pendant was a gift from my aunt. In it has a ton of history, so much that it won’t fit in here. It came with my dad’s side of the family from Indonesia. Recently we sold my grandpa’s house and before we deliver it we took everything that had value from it and I was able to dive in to this very rich story that is also mine.
The interesting part of this pendant is that we can see it was hand made and in it has the Indonesian identity: India+Asia. The Asian part is in the face that resembles the Kabukis and the Indian part is in the details that surround’s it.
In 2009 it will be the 50th year that the family arrived here in Brazil, one of my projects is to write and document about this history, so it won’t get lost.
